FAQ

Frequently asked questions

DNA Curtains are compatible with any objective-type TIRF microscope. Both commercial systems (e.g., Nikon TIRF, Olympus TIRF, Zeiss Elyra, Leica TIRF) and custom-built setups are suitable, provided they support the appropriate laser wavelengths for your fluorescent labels.

The flow cell is designed to operate with a syringe pump in withdraw mode using glass syringes (250 µL or smaller). Most standard syringe pumps (e.g., Harvard Apparatus, World Precision Instruments, KD Scientific) are compatible. A typical flow rate is ~1 µL/min.

Each channel has a volume of 0.5 µL with a dead volume of 2 µL. Typical experiments require only ~10 µL of sample at nanomolar concentrations — making the DNA Curtains Flow Cell extremely economical with precious protein samples.

The flow cell is optimized for DNA substrates in the range of 20–50 kbp. Both single-tethered (one biotin end) and double-tethered (biotin at both ends) configurations are available, enabling different types of experiments.

Yes. 1NA offers custom configurations including different barrier geometries, materials (gold or titanium), and channel layouts. Please contact us to discuss your specific requirements, and we will work with 1NA to assess feasibility and lead times.

Yes. We provide detailed protocols for lipid bilayer formation, DNA tethering, and experimental setup. Technical support is available by email. For groups new to DNA Curtains, we are happy to discuss implementation in more detail.
